RevoSys X300 Double DIN CarPC

I have been looking for an easy to install and maintain all in one unit, with 4 kids I don't really have time for a full time hobby of building and installing a real car PC . The Infill unit does not really impress me and after what seems to be years of waiting for Azentek to release the Atlas with no release date in sight.

I found this today.

Has anyone here heard of them or actually have one? If so how is the unit?

Hey Jax,

I wanted to introduce myself and take any questions that you or any other forum members may have about the RevoSys X300. It was just recently released and we are excited to offer such a stable platform for a CarPC.

We have tested several other CarPCs before deciding to go with the X300. We have been particularly amazed at how well it is built internally. Everything is specifically designed for this CarPC, and the hard drive is mounting on anti-shock mounts and an anti-shock bar inside.

It does have a VGA output which means you will be able to connect it to an additional screen or screens, which is great if you have kids or any passengers you need to entertain on another screen.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi RevoSys,

Could you give us more info. about the X300, I would like to know if I install the centrafuse frontend it will support all the X300 capabilities, like the radio tuner, gps, wifi, bluetooth an so on, directly from the front end screen, or the radio tuner is independent and canīt be controlled from the centrafuse, also the Sanyo 10 Disc DVD MP3 VCD Changer for X300 Double DIN Car can be controlled directly from the centrafuse interface, and if I add rear view camera to the unit it has automatic change to te camera when the reverse itīs engage and returns to the previous screen when itīs disengage like the pc screen.

Thanks

MSport-

I'd be more than happy to answer your questions. The AM/FM radio tuner is completely independent of the PC, and you can control the stations from the On-Screen menu of the X300. If you would like, you can certainly connect a Centrafuse-compatible FM tuner via USB to the PC. Centrafuse will recognize everything else about the PC such as the GPS receiver, WiFi, and Bluetooth. The 10 DISC DVD Changer for the X300 is also controlled directly from the X300 On-Screen menu, which is why the X300 can play DVDs/MP3 CDs/etc completely independent of the PC.

If you buy the rear-camera with nightvision, then the X300 will automatically display the camera's view when you put your car into reverse. We highly recommend getting the back-up camera with the X300, as it is convenient and increases safety.

Did you (your company) created the hardware ?
I have some questions to the developer...

=yes (my interpretation)....
okay...

Would you buy a new 10000$ car which runs 300mph consuming only 3 gallons and space for 6 passengers but without... windscreen ?
No ? You would ask if you can buy the car for 10300 with windscreen?!

Then why is the Revo X300 not equipped with an RDS decoder ? ~1500$+2$ for the RDS decoder would mean 1502$...
"Professional" 2DIN Car Infotainment Systems (Alpine, Blaupunkt, ...) also have RDS....
and a DeadReckoning GPS (Gyroscope+Speedpulse from car) ! additional 20$ costs...

How does the radio volume fade down if the navigation speaks (see Alpine, Blaupunkt, ...) ? No communication with pc ! ... and additional costs for developing OSD Menü, OSD Picture Prozessor.... instead of a simple USB-to-i2c Bridge communicating with the fm radio-ic

What is the current illumation level of the frontend ? (night skin ? day skin ?) Don't know ? So who has to control the backlightning of the TFT ? the PC and the only the PC ! (use usb-to-i2c bridge from radio). No OSD = saved money

1500$ for disturbing the OEM look in car at night ? (BMW = orange illumination of buttons in dashboard, VW = blue/red, Audi = red , Skoda = green , ...) Ever heard of RGB LEDs ? (0,5$ instead of 0,02$ per LED)

that hurts
May be have a look at competitors (Alpine, Blaupunkt, ...) first to get the features they offer then try improve their design (x86 cpu and pico-itx instead of embedded system seems a good idea as the car-pc community demonstrated nicely...)

What we are trying to build here is "Car/Automotive Infotainment based on x86 hardware and windows/linux."
At the first look their is no difference from the users point of view which hardware and which operating system is used but....

x86 hardware gives very good value for low money (compared to an embedded system with only xxx Mhz used in automotive infotainment systems by Alpine, Blaupunkt, ...) same goes for windows/linux.

and we have own ideas here, we don't accept closed systems. So we need a development evironment like Visual Studio.
Wanna pay xxxxx$ for a blahblahsuite for an embedded system ?
And we need open interfaces like provided by Streetdeck and Centrafuse and also by Microsoft (if we install a driver for additional hardware we connect to our systems)

Alpine and Blaupunkt take those embedded hardware crap because it was done decades ago too and those companies are slow dinosaurs.
At that time x86 systems were too slow for multimedia contents - but this has changed.

I would never try to sell "CAR-PC's" this is a crap word...

I don't understand what your problem is? What are you so angry about?

I did send a PM to this person, but have yet to receive a reply to my questions. If the radio is seperate from the CarPC, I like that idea because so far the radio has not been able to integrate into the front ends perfectly yet. I still have some questions about the system that I hope he answers though.
