Centrafuse 2.0 was recently featured in a Microsoft video blog touting the benefits of their Mesh Mobile concept and how that directly translates into higher functionality, increased safety and ease of use for CarPC users.

Microsoft’s Live Mesh is a synchronization and collaboration software that allows files and folders to be shared across multiple devices such as pictures/music from your home PC to your smartphone and laptop, and now to your CarPC.

Centrafuse is an integral part of this project, providing users with unparalleled ease-of-use for increasingly connected devices. Making sophisticated converged mobile devices safe and practical to use is at the core of what we do at Flux Media.

    Terran-

You can go to www.Livemesh.com now and get the program (still in Beta, but so is Gmail...). It works like Apple's MobileMe. From what i understand, you just install the "Live Operating Environment" on each device (ie CarPC, HomePC, WM Smartphone) and then go to your config web page to setup sync relationships, and then it should take care of the rest.

I plan to install it on my CarPC one weekend soon, to try and sync my podcasts from my desktop PC.

FYI: There is no actual "CF Plugin" for Live Mesh, but there doens't really need to be one, because i think you configure all of this once, like in your house using a browser and keyboard.

    Thanks for the comment!

to configure Mesh you simply install the runtime on your PC (or Mac or Windows Mobile device) and it automatically syncs the folders you select to all the devices in your Mesh (in a peer-to-peer mode) and also allows you to select up to 5GB of data to be Meshed with the web desktop so you can access it from anywhere.

My plan - once I get a PC in the car - is to sync music to the vehicle and sync GPS track and ODB-II data from it.

Maybe the CF developers should get on the Mesh API program and fully integrate it so you can configure your car from your desktop (pull back stats, push down a route to the mapping software etc!)

Terran, there's nothing to integrate since LiveMesh is something that will integrate into the Windows system.
Here's an example what you can do, even without a plugin:

    1. Create an account on LiveMesh and login, then download the software on your desktop and CarPC and install it.
    2. Once you've installed it an both machines, you'll be able to connect from the desktop to remote control your CarPC (although, you have to confirm the access on your CarPC, which is a bit uncomfortable if your car is miles away. Darn security )

Now you can create "virtuall" folders on the Live Desktop (this is the 5GB space they'll give you as you create an account). Those folders will be accessible from within each PC logged on with your account. Of course, you can adjust the sync option to sync automatically. Let's say you move some files from your desktop into the Live Desktop folder and you have set up to sync with your CarPC, those files will be copied automatically to your CarPC next time you're connected to Live Mesh from your CarPC.

    Now comes the tricky part:
Open the File Explorer on your CarPC and go to the, let's say, Plugins folder of CF. Click the right mouse button and pick "Add folder to Live Mesh...". LM will create a new folder on your Live Desktop and copy all files to this folder (this may take a little while for the first time, since there's nothing to sync).
Now, on your desktop, open that new folder and modify some configs or language files. As soon as you save the changes, they'll be synced through LM and eventually on your CarPC. Next time you run CF, it will reflect those changes. Same thing works of course vice versa.

If you do the same with the "..\AppData\Local\Centrafuse" folder, you'll always have a backup of the CF settings on your Live Desktop.
Hence, if you decide to modify some CF settings, you can do it easily from your desktop. Same here: Next time you connect to LM from your CarPC, it'll sync the changes and after you restart CF, those changes will take place.

Beside the fact that you can easily modify anything on your CarPC from your desktop, I love the "automatic backup" option. You'll never again loose settings made on your CarPC just because you forgot to save them somewhere.
Remember, all this is running in the background without any user interaction needed.

You could do the same with your Music, Pictures or Videos folders.
I did that for example with my Contacts folder and now I'm able to sync my contacts easily It's just a matter of copying files to the Live Desktop.

For now, you can only sync PC's but after LM gets released, you will be able to sync with your mobile device too (assuming you have a WindowMobile device).
Today you can log on from your mobile device through IE and send your pictures to the Live Desktop.

There's also a Live Mesh API available but for the CarPC (CF) it isn't really needed.

    Check it out!

I'm with you Zorro.... actually I am looking at going back to a WM phone soon ( the HD Touch ) for this sort of reason.

One of the main things I wanted to do with my CarPC was plan my jorney on say Google, save it and then when I start the CarPC up select it and away I go.... now its possible.

I'll have a look at this at some point but I just have too much going on at the moment
