You know... its almost like you read my mind. On my way home, I was thinking the exact same thing. I will have to do some more testing...
In the mean time... I wonder if these settings have anything to do with it...

Maybe "Good" is good enough? I dunno... But I think hardware acceleration would help take load off the CPU and let the sound card do all the work...a good thing! |

Tried turning down the hardware accelerator, no luck. Also tried WMP to see if I hear the stutter, no luck.
Its only when I turn on cross fade in CF and resume after hibernation. It happens with more than a few songs, sometimes almost all of them. Dont know why... ![]() Right now, I have just turned off cross fading. ![]() I will just start from scratch when the final release comes out. Till then, I will keep fiddling around. ![]() Other than that, I got no problems what so ever... I got to tell you, I get a smile on my face every time CF turns on and all the features are working perfectly. Even with hibernation and Shell mode... good job guys

I have exactly the same issue as nintwala.
I can manually forward through tracks and it skips for a little bit of the start of the song, but not all tracks...... just some in the playlist. I don't think I have crossfading enabled though and still get the same issue..... I just posted this to show that there is more than one person with the issue. If you'd like me to post a log just let me know. |

I've had a break thru with my stuttering issue...
Made some BIOS adjustments, as I was watching my CPU load sitting around just 20-30% while I was getting stuttering. That's not right! It HAD to be PCI/USB bus traffic issues... What I did (With my Abit NF7-S) was adjust the RAM to FSB to syncronous Mhz (333Mhz in this case), even though my RAM is good for 400Mhz, I had a hunch that using a 5/6 divisor to get 400/333Mhz might cause timing issues...so now FSB and RAM are both 333Mhz. This gave me the opportunity to speed up my memory timings as well (7-3-3 2.0 latency), no doubt helping things as well! Next, in the advance sections, I DISABLED 'Enhanced PCI interface'...don't ask me how this helped, but I think it was the single best improvement to the stuttering. Perhaps it was halting some PCI traffic while giving other devices priority? Now it maybe gives all traffic equal access to the bus? There is also a setting for PCI latency...I've spent a lot of time messing with this setting...from 16 clocks all the way up to 72 clocks! For sure, the best setting is a value divisable by 8 (8, 16, 32, etc...). Currently I'm at 16 clocks (stock is 32), and this seems to be the best currently...however, I haven't tested other values since making all these changes... Another change I made was to the AGP settings...I disabled fast writes, set AGP to 4X and (I think) I have the aperture set to 32Mb. No need to give the video traffic majority access to the bus...unless you plan on playing Crysis in your car ![]() All told, these setting helped tremendously with my audio! No more stuttering, even with heavy disk I/O or network traffic/browsing. Sure, the desktop seems a little sluggish (I am running Vista afterall!) compared to my water cooled, 3.4Ghz quad core home PC, but everything works properly and without hiccups... With a smoother, easier working audio setup, I'm gonna experiment with upping the sample and bit rates throughout. I have some 24-bit, 96KHz Blu-Ray audio rips I've been trying to test out! My hardware is capable of 24-bit 196KHz, but that's a LOT of data for Audiomulch and my 'lil CPU to crunch... Well, Audiomulch is showing that it's using quite a few CPU clocks while running 24/96KHz sampling...but still no stuttering! All my USB devices are mounted too... I went thru Centrafuse, trying out all the devices whole playing some wma's, and everything is smooth and functional, if a little less snappy. This is with just 16/48KHz lossless wma's though...I'll have to try to enhanced media to be certain! Last edited by WuNgUn; August 10th, 2008 at 09:05 PM. Reason: (Sample rate bliss!!) |

...it would also seem, on my hardware, having Suspend-to-RAM power mode enabled in the BIOS seriously messes things...
I've been having troubles getting hibernation or sleep to work, and I only stumbled upon this... Tis would be the first option I'd change, seeing as most people don't use 'sleep' anyways. |

Thanks WuNgUn.
Just verification that it is indeed a system hardware specific issue. Closing this thread as it is not a software bug and we cannot reproduce it here on any of our systems. |
