I don't see why Flux is stuck on using this NAV software, they must have signed a pretty good deal with them and now they can't get out without losing alot of money. It would be better to them not to go with just one software and instead just provide plugins for the different types of GPS softwares out there, like iGuidance. This will provide users the choices of software and releave them from this GPS nightmare.

They have to remember what killed StreetDeck, they focused on that memory hungry GPS that was inaccurate and hated by most.

can we all also remember that its not like CF uses a strange version of destinator with multiple maps... ALL destinator software uses this. If you went to the store and bought destinator 7 you would end up with the same maps that cf uses... which is what some people did. also this whole idea of getting rid of dest is not realistic. obviously they have a deal with them or they wouldnt have been given the sdk to use. the new iguidance plugin works really good use that. do a quick google search and im sure you could find it for free too... not that I condone that.

To make a long story short- I think we're getting the best they can offer at this price. Navteq is the big player in this field, and they have clients like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, & BMW. My guess is that their data does not come cheaply- most likely way out of reach for a product like Centrafuse that has, perhaps, hundreds of users- not millions.

Plus, part of Navteq's business model is selling map updates. So we wouldn't be getting free updates from them any more than we are from Destinator. Right now, Navteq is selling BMW map upgrades for $199- that's almost as much as Flux charges for Centrafuse WITH maps.

Would any of us be willing to pay- let's say- $500 for Centrafuse? How about $1000? I have no idea about Navteq's licensing, but I know that it is nothing for a big company to pay over a million dollars a year just for software licenses. Plus, customers like Navteq's WANT the price to be high, because it keeps the little guys out of their market space. Microsoft & Google know they can eat the cost- and they know guys like Flux can't.

I'm sorry you didn't realize the maps were segmented before you purchased. I haven't ever needed to use them for a cross country trip- but that is likely your main reason for wanting them.

Garmin Mobile PC is $50 USD without the GPS receiver and the Maps for my country are $150 USD but North America Maps are $99 USD. These are Navteq Maps and up to date, as in 2008 maps. A pluggin for GMPC would definately be a good choice for CF but it would take a lot of time, effort and resources for Fluxmedia to carry out pluggins or integration for several different Navigation solutions. People do think CF is expensive too compared to other front ends, but hey, it is good and it is worth it but an increase in price would seriously hurt sales no matter how good the Navigation software is. And less sales means less development and the consumer will eventually lose.

the point is, we paid for 1.2 and got a FREE upgrade to 2.0
They are willing to help they just can't do it yet. A free map upgrade will not help either! it is the map engine that will solve your problems, and that you will get for free, when it's ready. very much like service packs for XP or vista, you get them free, you just have to wait.
