Something to ponder

First, let's set up the situation:

You're in the market for a new car purchase. You have to choose wisely because you can't afford to purchase a new car every year. So, through your research you've narrowed your choices between these 3 cars: Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger or Chevrolet Corvette.

Now it's time to start weighing the odds between the 3 cars:

Dodge Charger - Well, it's definitely a nice looking car. It seems to have everything that you're wanting. Even better, the car is absolutely free. The catch? You have to provide your own engine for the car. Not just any engine will work in the Charger either. You have a choice between a couple engines, but you don't know how well it'll all come together.

Ford Mustang - Again - beautiful car. The interior is gorgeous, the price is right and wow, is it a nice looking car. But, the car dealer won't let you start the engine to see how it sounds. Also, because of quarreling in the Ford management, they also have stopped any work on the Mustang, including closing the garages in case you have any problems in the future. Next...

Chevy Corvette - What can you say? This is every hot-blooded American boy's dream car. It has looks to kill for, the leather seats fit you like a tailored glove, the engine sounds incredible and you know the babe's will love you in it. But, the dealership will only let you drive the car around their parking lot in 2 different locations.

You go home and talk your loving wife into spending the money for your dream car. The next day you go out to the dealership and buy it. Nice, right? Wrong...

Immediately after you leave the parking lot, you find something really wrong here. Your brand new Corvette will only go 30mph. You stop and read the manual, call the garage, etc. You then take it in to have the garage find the problem. After you explain the problem over and over again, they finally find the issue.

It seems that the Delco-Remy made computer in the car is out of date. They should have a new computer for you in a couple of months. So, you decide, hell, I can just cruise around town in my shiny new Corvette. Since I paid this much, I really can't afford to take a vacation across country like I had planned anyway.

So, after a few months of only doing a max speed of 30mph in your new car, the garage calls and says that the new computers are available. However, if you want one, you have to shell out a few thousand dollars. What?!?! Why do I have to pay for a computer to fix my new car?

Well, it seems that Delco-Remy charges Chevrolet for the computers. So, Chevrolet can't just give them away.

Now - what would YOU do in this situation and how does it all seem familiar?

I would have drove it back to the dealership and ask them for my money back.

The problem is that in the fine print of the paperwork for your car is a no-refund policy.

Isnt there some kind of law against this type of shady dealers? You should have reported them and not wait around. Or worse case get a lawyer... They basically sold you a lemon.

That's more of the line of thinking I was considering. Probably the first step would be my bank, then the state attorney general, along with a nice lengthy complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

but what if the corvette worked fine and just the navigation in the cars shinny new navigation was not working? like all the other features were fine but just the part you paid extra for was not working. and then they offered to fix it for free once the company updated the nav engine, they just could not give you the updated maps to go along with it? and those old maps worked fine just maybe the pois were old, and that the problems you were having with the nav were not really shared by a lot of people?

sorry just gotta put this in context... my CF works great and my nav works great with my old destinator maps... so as much as I think that they should give you the new maps if youve bought in the last few months, I think that a full refund is asking for a lot, maybe a refund for the difference between nav and SE versions, but even then if they did that they would not be able to take the maps from you.

Have you read the problems I experience with the current navigation setup? The multi-map system is WORTHLESS to me. I cannot see where it's sending me (out of the current map), cannot tell how many miles it's routing me (they change constantly & incorrectly) and I cannot get a time estimate off of this system.

Also, unless you're physically in the same "mapset" as your home, well, you can't just hit "Home". The same goes for POI's and Favorites - you have to be physically in the same mapset as the location you want to select.

Hey, if you never leave a small area and it works for you, that's great. Some people, however, do go places. Just last week I was in Austin, TX. Tomorrow I'll be in northern Connecticut. The next day I'll be in West Virginia. How much will I use the navigation for CF for my runs? NONE.

Alright... lets calm down people... LOL

Lets not make a big deal about this. I cant speak for Flux but no one is getting free maps here. It was just a miss understanding about the issue. The issue is with the engine no the maps. They are working on it and will fix it. There is no need for new maps.

As far as the pricing goes, they usually pass it on to the users without adding a penny to it. Basically, you pay what they pay... Even when you buy a car you have to pay for that DVD with new maps if they are updated later.

EDIT: Sometimes you have to understand, peoples hands are tied because of the vendors etc. Cant hold them responsible for it. Just have to be patient. I am sure the flux team will make the right decision.

Then they need to make CF run Microsoft Streets & Trips or Delorme Street Atlas data. You can buy either off the shelf in a store for $49.
