And this is why I am waiting to shell out the coin on CF. I can pretty much guarantee that CF will be the Front end of choice for me, depending on the price point, and as long as I can still embed my own GPS solution. Unless they come with something similar to iGO.

CF3 does look kinda of cool. Not sure if i agree on holding back on purchasing CF2 though. CF3 probably won't be out til late spring/early summer and like CF2, there will be RC releases til the official version comes out.
And the upgrade fee for CF2 users will probably be in the neighborhood of the difference between what we paid for CF2 and the new price for CF3 so you wouldn't be losing any money by getting CF2 now. But this is ONLY a guess!! I have no idea, but I would find it hard to believe that FLux would let you purchase CF2 and then make you pay more later then if you waited. oh well. Just an opinion of mine.

from my experience you should not be expecting 3 seconds waits between screens on such an application.
i'm guessing your running a fairly bogged down windows installation. i'm interested it should take this long for you, and i've sent you a PM - hopefully i can help you slicken up your PC. 3 second waits between screens is no good.
note: i have noticed such lag (firefox/IE) on computers where the proper graphics (GPU) drivers were not installed. this is something i'll take up with you in the PM.

first you quoted gpu doesn't mind... then you propose to install new drivers..?
I assume there are some direct3d supported animations in cf... and i assume they will get more in cf3... so the gpu should mind!

i did'nt say install *new* drivers. i said install *the* drivers
GPU does'nt mind - so long as you have installed its drivers and are'nt using the generic windows drivers which will cause lag in any situation.
this 'CF3' doesn't use Direct3D (its for 3D only). It is using DirectDraw, which is for 2D and any cheap graphics card can handle pretty much anything done in directdraw.
edit: just looked at this video again. there certainly isn't any 3D. just scrolling 2D graphics. kinda like how you scroll up and down this webpage with your mouse scroll wheel. hopefully that isn't bogging down your graphics card! =) the 'zooming' effect isn't 3D either of course.

Direct3D isn't exclusively for 3D!!... it's also common to use it for 2D Animations! because DirectDraw is not so powerfull and therefore obsolet by Direct3D... as far as I know :-)
And also StreetDeck uses Direct3D for ther 2D interface!
Why shouldn't it be feasible to use direct3D only in one dimension?
BTW: I like the preview! It looks much more modern! But I would like to have a little more color!

It would be interesting to know what specs this needs to run.
It's clearly running Vista so will need a half decent system just to load... Will it run on XP?

I think maybe you guys should wait before commenting on how you dont think CF3 will run on low end system. It could be the other way around and work flawlessly. We just have to wait till more info is released. I am interested in the NAV engine though. Will it simply be a modified Destinator or a different company?

It could run flawlessly on lower end systems, but from the looks of that video, it might not. And that's what I'm concerned about. Nothing more, nothing less.

My opinion is that I highly doubt that the flux team would create CF3 to the point where half of it's users would have to upgrade the carpc's just for the new version.
I could be wrong though.

I'm holding off until price point is announced. If the cost of CD2+ upgrade is equal to the cost of CF3, then I will definitely shell out the coin before CF3 comes out.
