Looking for a sound card with adjustable crossovers sub etc
Does anyone know a sound card with adjustable crossovers HPF/LPF?
Software - I assume it would do it in software. Things I need: SPDIF in (XMPCR) Audio in (HD Radio - good adcs would be nice) 5.1 channel sound (Just a side note did you know that a lot of Realtek chip sets support a 5+2 architecture that would enable seprerate headphone output along with a standard out. Could be usefull in Dual Zone applications. Realteks are typically onboard.) Xeen |

There aren't any sound cards that support cross-over functionality. You will need a stand-alone program to do this, or do it via your amplifiers.
Frequency Allocator is the best software option, but it's not cheap and it's not for you unless you fully understand the purpose and how to use a cross over. Remember, in home audio, cross overs aren't really needed....EQ is pretty much all they require. Most cabinets have passive cross-overs built in and most subs are actively controlled. Your amplifiers should have cross-overs built in....even really cheap amplifiers have these now. If your amps don't then I'd stop looking at where you can spend your money and go buy new amplifiers.

If I understand clearly, you would like to setup the frequency cut for a sub/main speakers from the 5.1 card.
I use the Soudblaster live 5.1 USB. I can do this quite fine except : * the precise frequency cut is not displayed (just a slider). * You cannot setup the curve for the cut. There is also a joint stereo mode with fader for front and back stereos

I am using external (built in/ included crossovers) in the mid bass and high speakers. I wanted to filter bass out in the digital portion (aka on the comp) of the audio stream instead of the analog portion.
Thanks for the replies... currently the ALC 883 is the only definite chipset with a LPF crossover. But these sound cards are not known for their quality sound (On board usually). I need to check my x-fi at home... but I use bare bones drivers so I doubt I have the full options. Jan: I have a bi-amped home theatre system at home (front channels) with external cross over control. It is very tedious to set up your own x-overs: I whole heartedly agree. Thanks all for the responses: I will post with any info I find out. Xeen |
