What OBD-II scanner will work with Centrafuse?

There are three main protocols used for OBDII compliance.

ISO, PWM, and VPW

Ford mainly uses PWM, GM uses VPW, and pretty much everyone else uses ISO.

ELM 320, 322, 323 are offered as separate chips supporting the respective protocols that exist today.

You can get a chip that works with, for example, a Volkswagen. Volkswagen uses the ISO protocol, which is the ELM323 chipset.

These devices are single protocol only, hence they are cheaper.

The ELM327 chipset, on the other hand, will handle any of the 3 protocols, and also supports the new CAN BUS (next generation OBD) interface that some new cars are coming with. These are little higher in price, but in our opinion are worth the extra 30-40 dollars because you won’t have to buy another if you get a new car. Plus it will work on your buddy's car too.

Here's some of the options: http://www.scantool.net/products/index.php?cPath=8

In short, these are the devices that will work with Centrafuse. Many people have had great luck with the EmlScan 5, which runs on the ELM327 chipset.

In case anyone wants to look up compatibilty info, scantool.net also has this page: http://www.scantool.net/browseCV.html

That Interface works also great with Centrafuse.

(for German market)

I run this Interface round about 1,5 years with centrafuse and it allways works perfectly. This Interface ist compliant with ELM32x and has CAN-BUS on board, too

Oh, interesting. I never knew CF had a german shop. Is it shipped from Germany, too? (US imports would add a bit of customs fees etc.)

And, is there an adapter cable available for that ODB2 thing? I'd need a sort of L-plug with a low profile to go into the vehicle CAN and from there into the OBD2 Interface, or I won't be able to close my fuse box hatch...

If anyone wants a more permanent install for their OBD2 interface. Consider getting an extra cable like I did.

I bought one of these cables to solder into the OBD harness rather than having to block the plug:
http://www.obd2cables.com/products/p...products_id=89

^That way I can leave my carPC OBD2 interface "always connected". So if my car needs to go to the shop or the dealer for whatever reason, the original OBD2 port is still available for use. My car going to a mechanic would be unusual though, since I am a mechanic & I do my own work. Who knows though... One day I might start getting too lazy to work on my own stuff.
