I don't see where the confusion is. I thought it was already quite clear what customers were paying for. Which is why I bought 1.2XLE (but have never actually run it) and installed the latest RC version and am patiently waiting for the bugs to be fixed and stable released. I really don't know how people can be confused by this.

I'm doing the same (running RC3 in the car, testing and tweaking RC4 to my liking on the home PC).

What worries me is that we may get a continual sequence of Release Candidates and skip straight to V3 instead of releasing a stable V2 Gold.

It's what Flux did with V1.4 after all.

The only valid reason I see for someone waiting to purchase is the maps.If newer maps come out, I assume that might be a separate upgrade fee. Other than that, the support is pretty decent so even if it does end up being RC's until this time next year, its still being improved upon with each release..

I say buy now because standing around waiting is no fun..

Believe me, the developers have no intention of skipping right to 3.0.

As I stated, that's well over a year away.

will there be a discount for people that already have maps (that bought them with CF).

i only bought the software a few months ago. so upgrading the maps for another fee just seems silly. basically if i knew there was going to be another fee to upgrade maps i would have just waited. (b/c personally i think these maps suck.)

the cost we pay will be the cost you pay. We can't discount it any more than that and expect to survive.

As with any new software, you have to pay to upgrade or get the next version... Just like with Windows, if you want to go from XP to Vista, you have to pay. If CF continued to give it out free to old customers, they would never make money, after all it is a business. The only reason they gave us 2.0 for free was because of phoco no longer being updated, which left everyone with no updates to handsfree phone for CF which is a main feature.

I don't mind paying for CF3, as long as CF2 will be made to a "full product" first.
That means one can stay at CF2 without problems if they want.
To compare ti Windows again, vista wasn't released till well after XP SP2.
Now CF is a lot smaller product, so it shouldn't be a problem to get it up par in a much smaller time .
I just hope some more focus will be brought to alternate navigation, be it native or through plugins.

Yes. This is absolutely no different than what you would run into with any other software on the market....Windows, et. al.
Eeem, hello there!
I'm a little concerned right now. I started a thread a while ago (Big Navigation Problem) and since then i can't wait to get the new maps. I have a lot of little issues and since the big problem that's mentioned above i won't trust the navigation and print a map and route out, too - just in case.
So long story short -> i have to pay for the new maps extra, even if i can't use the old ones properly!?
