@ Nine: As Scott said, we did a helluva lot of testing on my Holux 1000-M BT GPS, and, although we could get it to connect some of the time, it did so at around a 40% ratio -the rest we had to "cheat" inside CF settings to get it to connect ofter S3/Hibernate, whichh is not ideal.
My Nokia E51 connects all the time, no issues at all. I recently got my hands on a very nice
Sparkfun Venus GPS, running at up to 10Hz updates, and 115k BAUD, beautiful - connect that to either
this model USB->Serial Breakout board, the same model I have, which has the required 3.3V regulator for the GPS, or a similar, although slightly
smaller, and thus more expensive one, and grab a small Lithium (similar to motherboard CMOS) battery, and, you're set.
Very fast TTFF, and, with the backup battery, you will not have to worry about long delays to first fix- mine gets a fix within 2-3 seconds after resume from S3/Hibernate, and CF 3.0 always makes the connection now.
Wonderful, both phone and GPS working after resume.
Tie that in with the little Zotac 9300 WiFi mini-itx board, with E7500 cpu I'm using, and lighspeed Intel X25-M G2 SSD, and you have a very fast, stable and reliable carputer. Jeesh, with S# or hibernate, it's within the CF shell and operable within 10-12 seconds after power on - 23 seconds from dead-cold start - must be happy.
Mmmm...sorry...got carried away.....
