What can Centrafuse do with my phone?
Phone functionality will constantly be evolving.  We do have plans to incorporate further Bluetooth phone features.  However, in an effort to provide a solid, working solution, our developers have opted to focus their efforts on one feature at a time before moving onto others.  If you would like to see a particular feature, please feel free to request it in our Suggestions & Request forum.

HANDSFREE

Centrafuse controls the handsfree profile on your phone. Dialing, receiving calls, transfer of audio path, receiving signal/battery status, etc, etc.

OBJECT PUSH
Centrafuse runs an OBEX server and thus can receive vcard and phonebook pushes from other Bluetooth devices.

What Bluetooth dongle do I need to use with Centrafuse?
See our Supported Hardware page's section on Bluetooth adapters:

How do I pair my phone with Centrafuse?
To pair your phone properly to Centrafuse, Centrafuse must be running.

The pairing can be initiated from either the phone, or from the Centrafuse phone settings.

In either case, a pin code is requested from the user on both the phone and the Centrafuse side.

Once paired, if 'Auto Connect' is set to true, Centrafuse will automatically connect with your phone.

What are the “playback” and “recording” devices used for in phone settings?
The playback device is the soundcard that the Bluetooth stack will use to play the audio received from the remote party (the person on the other end of your phone call). This serves as the speakerphone, should you choose to use it this way.

The recording device is the soundcard AND the line-in which the Bluetooth stack will use for recording local voice data (from microphone), and sending it to the remote party.

Note: On Realtek based sound devices (most onboard), the proper setting is Line Volume for the Playback device. And the Recording Device is your microphone input.

Can I install the newest releases from BlueSoleil?
Yes, the latest version on the BlueSoleil website should be compatible with the latest version of Centrafuse.

How do I disable automatic updates in BlueSoleil?
Open "Bluetooth Places" on the Desktop, then right-click "My Device" and click Properties... Then click on the Advanced tab, and de-select the option for "Check for updates automatically".

My Bluetooth dongle isn't recognized, what do I do?
The Bluetooth stack that ships with Centrafuse supports many usb dongles and chipsets.

However, some chipsets, especially new ones, will not work with the stack "out of the box". It's just a USB transport, so most likely, it will still work with your dongle.

Just follow the simple steps in the link below, provided by one of our users.

If you continue to have problems, we recommend using one of the approved CSR Bluetooth dongles provided on the BlueSoleil website:
BlueSoleil USB Dongles

"Bluetooth not found"
If you're getting this message then it means that the Bluetooth stack is not installed.

You MUST install the Bluetooth stack that is provided with Centrafuse in order for the phone functionality to work.

Since this Bluetooth stack is a custom build specifically for Centrafuse, you cannot use another Bluetooth stack or your own version of the BlueSoleil software.

"Bluetooth not Initialized"
This means that the Bluetooth stack has not been or could not be initialized.

This could be due to an error or due to some other reason.

As always, reboot, and re-try running Centrafuse.

If this is still happening, please collect a system report once the error has appeared again.

To collect a system report, please see this FAQ: http://forums.fluxmedia.net/faq.php?faq=fluxfaqroot#faq_systemreport

How can I import my Phone Contacts into Centrafuse?
Until Centrafuse is able to dynamically read your Phonebook from your phone, there IS a way to get your contacts into Centrafuse.

If your phone supports PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile), you can use the BlueSoleil Windows program to export your contacts as vCards. To do this, open Bluetooth Places, edit the properties of your phone icon (in BlueSoleil) and enable PBAP (if available). Then right-click on your phone icon, and select View Contacts. Then manually copy/paste these vCard files to an actual folder on your PC.

Then go to Advanced Phone Settings, choose Import vCards, browse to that folder storing your vCards, wait a few seconds while they import, and then hit Save, and exit Settings. Your contacts should be manually imported and appear in the Phone interface.

My remote party hears themselves, or there is a bad echo on the remote caller's line.
This is a known issue.

Echo Cancelation / Noise Reduction (ECNR) is THE major obstacle in the production of hands free Bluetooth kits.

You may wonder why the car companies are able to implement this so well.  These companies spend thousands and thousands of man hours perfecting the hands free feature.  It's also worth nothing that they only have to worry about 1 system, 1 Bluetooth chip, 1 audio subsystem, and 1 microphone.

Our Bluetooth stack vendor is currently working on an even better solution.

In the meantime, make sure you have the best hardware to ensure you get the best experience available:

This sound card/microphone kit works extremely well with the Bluetooth Handsfree function in Centrafuse:
PureAudio USB-SA External Digital Sound card (w/ dual Mic-array)   * Also works well with Voice Recognition features of Centrafuse

If you are having issues or want to reduce audio delay as much as possible, we recommend using one of the approved CSR Bluetooth dongles provided on the BlueSoleil website:

Nothing is working for me! What do I do?
Can’t get it to work? Don’t fret. Bluetooth is not the most user friendly thing around.

Although Bluetooth has come a long way in 5 years, there still are situations in which things just “don’t seem to work”.

In some cases, maybe it just doesn’t work with that particular system, with that particular dongle, those particular audio drivers, etc.

In most cases, it's just a matter of configuring the system properly.

Pairing is not working for me, what am I doing wrong?
Remember: If you previously had the phone paired to Centrafuse you must delete the pairing from BOTH sides: Centrafuse as well as the phone.

It’s always smart to reboot both the phone and the Bluetooth dongle (just restart your computer to do this) after removing pairings and before re-pairing.

I can pair okay, but cannot hear anything and the other end cannot hear me. What can I do?
There are different version of Bluetooth adapters (dongles) that conform to different versions of the Bluetooth SIG spec. For Handsfree Profile (HFP) to work properly, you need a dongle that supports Bluetooth version 1.2 or higher. What you need to check is your dongle's HCI version, if it is version 1.1 or lower, everything appears to be working, but version 1.1 (and lower) does not transfer "Hands free" audio over to the PC. If you have this problem, You will need to change your Bluetooth dongle to version 1.2 or higher. Most dongles that you can purchase these days are version 2.0 or higher, just make sure you check and re-check that this is the case, trust me it will save you a lot of frustration. It should say what version it is in Device Manager, like this picture.

Centrafuse Bluetooth Tools
cfbluetoothtools.zip

Right click on the above file and select 'Save As'.  Save this file to some where that you will remember then extract this zip file to somewhere on your hard drive. There are two command line utilities included in this package:

DeviceEnum.exe
Will list the names of all your sound devices installed on your system as the Bluetooth stack sees them. This is used for debugging issues related to not being able to hear handsfree audio, or remote calling parties not being able to hear you.

BTTest.exe
A simple Bluetooth command line application. Currently, we use this tool to have users check the remote services available on their phone.

To list the remote services installed on a phone:

  • Start BTTest.exe from its extracted folder.
  • Enter ‘3’ for the Profile Manager.
  • Enter ‘5’ for HFP/HSP profile
  • Enter ‘1’ for HFP AG service.
  • Enter ‘whatever number represents your found phone’.
  • The phone’s service list is displayed
  • Enter ‘q’ to quit
  • Enter ‘r’ a series of times to exit the application.

In the list of services for your phone, the service name is phone dependent. What you are looking at is the service class. Centrafuse supports connecting to a Handsfree Audio Gateway, which i represented by Service Class ID 0x111F.

If this service class is not listed, then your phone does not support the handsfree profile.

Centrafuse drops the hands free connection when the other end picks up.
If you are experiencing issues with Centrafuse dropping the hands free connection and reverting back to the phones internal speakers when placing a call, then turn off Auto Audio Transfer in the Phone settings.

Having Auto Audio Transfer turned on means that the audio stream is automatically transferred to the handset upon establishing a connection with another phone.

Does Centrafuse support my phone? Does Centrafuse support xxxx phone?
Due to the enormous number of cell phones manufacturered in the world currently, we have no feasable way to know if each an every one is compatable with Centrafuse/BlueSoleil.

Your best bet is to check for Hands Free Profile support (HFP) for the phone and to post on our forums (http://forums.fluxmedia.net) to see if anyone else has had any luck with your particular phone in your particular region.

You can also check our 'Tested Phones' thread here to see what phones other users have had luck with: http://forums.fluxmedia.net/centrafuse-supported-devices/4442-tested-phones.html

What if I want to activate Bluetooth on my secondary development machine?
Only one BlueSoleil Bluetooth license is provided with your Centrafuse 2.0 purchase.  While we do allow Centrafuse to be installed on 2 PCs, we allow this for development purposes only.

Please be careful to only activate your Bluetooth license key on the primary machine you will be using Centrafuse on, not on the development machine.

You can always purchase a secondary BlueSoleil Bluetooth license for use on your development machine.

How do I activate my BlueSoleil Bluetooth license?
To activate your Bluetooth license in Centrafuse 2.0 follow these easy steps (note 2.0 RC4+ must be installed):
  1. Already be a paid customer of Centrafuse
  2. Already have Centrafuse 2.0 installed
  3. Already have the Centrafuse Bluetooth installed (Custom BlueSoleil Bluetooth stack)
    1. When you installed Centrafuse, you should have installed this when prompted.
  4. Log into your My Account page at: https://www.fluxmedia.net/login.aspx
  5. Next to your Centrafuse 2.0 Serial key, you should see a link to get your Bluetooth Serial key. Just click this link and a key will be automatically generated for you.
  6. Copy this key to the Bluetooth License Key field in your Phone settings (Advanced settings must be enabled).
    1. Use this serial number to Activate one (1) PC to a single Bluetooth adapter. This will work for THAT Bluetooth adapter only.
  7. If you have an active internet connection in your car, it will try to activate the Bluetooth automatically.
  8. If you don't have an active internet connection, it will prompt you to save an Internet shortcut to a USB drive. You will then put this USB drive in your home/work computer (or anything that has Internet) and double click the URL file. This is explained in Centrafuse before you copy it. This is the exact message Centrafuse gives…

If possible, Bluetooth will activate over the Internet.

If no Internet connection is available, you will be prompted for a location to save an Internet shortcut, we recommend saving this to a USB drive. This Internet shortcut can be used on any PC with an Internet connection to generate an unlock code for this PC.
  9. Once you double click the internet shortcut it goes to the FluxMedia web page, which also contains additional instructions.
  10. The Flux website will direct you to the IVT website, where you will take the presented activation code, and save it to a file. Save the file as text.
  11. Now that you have your new Unlock Activation file saved from the Internet enabled PC to your USB drive, plug that drive into your CarPC.
  12. In Centrafuse now, when you click the Bluetooth Enter Unlock Code you get a file browser telling you to select the Unlock File.
  13. Select this file then it will automatically open the file, enter the unlock code, and activate BlueSoleil.
You're all done!

Bluetooth should be active now!
