I have the d945gclf2 with 2gb ram and a samsung HD on SATA.

From the moment I turn the key until I hear music it takes 35seconds.

Wheras of that is:

5 seconds until the powersupply kicks in
15 seconds until the motherboard booted up
15 seconds of windows getting out of hypernation

I assume, that with 1GB of Ram windows would take only 10 seconds to get out of hypernation.

What annoys me most is the 5 seconds from the powersupply to kick in. I use the M2-ATX..

Maybe I might downgrade to less RAM, to squeeze out a few more seconds.

I already disabled everything possible in the BIOS from the motherboard.

What model no. is your HDD?

The Read/Write speeds of your HDD will affect the hibernation/boot speed.

These will all affect your boot/hibernate speed:
- BIOS settings
- RAM size, more Ram the slower the hibernate speed
- CPU speed, obviously
- IDE or SATA
- HD read/write speeds. If your HD has a low R/W speed it will add time.

I bought that m/b recently and I'm just waiting for delivery of my new OCZ Vertex SSD 30GB drive. It boasts 200/160 Mb/s Read/Write speeds!

Google HD Tach to test your drive speeds

hello,

i just have a couple of questions

how much power does hibernation drain from the battery?
and
does the M2-ATX have an automatic turn off/hibernate mode when you turn your car off

osvikvi will become famous soon enough
Hibernation does not require power at all!
On my system, the uSDC from Mpegbox cuts off the power to the PSU as soon as the system is off or in hibernate.
placing your system into stand-by will use some power, the amount depends on what you have connected to it.
More info:? just :google: the difference between Hibernate and standby.

Hi,
Well most has been said in my first post if you read carefully
Anyways here are the full details:

Motherboard: Intel d945gclf2 with Atom 330 DualCore
Memory: Kingston, 2GB, CL5, DDR2-667MHz
HardDisc: Samsung HM251JI, 250GB SATAI - Average readSpeed 52 MB/s - Burst Speed 120.5 MB/s - This is VERY fast for a 2.5" SATAI drive with 5400 RPM. I'm impressed! (This is real life, not spec. I compared with the table within HDTach and this drive and this looks pretty good)
CD-Rom: Some Slimdrive

BIOS-Settings:

Hyperthreading: Enable

Boot Configuration

Numlock:On
System Fan Control: Enable
Max CPUID Value Limit: Disable
Display Setup Prompt: Off

Peripheral Configuration
Serial Port, Parallel Port, On-Board LAN: Disable
Audio: Enable

Drive Configuration
Use Automatic Mode: Disable
Use Serial ATA: Enable
ATA/IDE Mode: Native
S.M.A.R.T: Disable
Primary Channel: Enable
HardDisc Predelay: 0

Event Log: All Disable

Video Configuration

DVMT Mode: Fixed
IGD DVMT Mem: 128MB
IGD Aperture Size: 256MB
Primary Video Adapter: Intel Grafics

Chipset Configuration
PCI Latency: 32
HPET: Disable

Management Config
ASF Support: Disable

USB Configuration
USB Ports, 2.0, Legacy: Enable, Enable, Enable

Security
No Passwords set
Expansion Card Text: Disable
XD Technology: Disable

Power
After Power Failure: Stay off
Wake on LAN from S5: Power On
ACPI Suspend State: S3 State
Wake System from S5: Disable
Keyboard select: Keyboard 1

Boot
Boot Menu Type: Normal
Harddrive Order: Samsung HM251JI
Boot to Optical Devices: Disable
Boot to removable Devices: Disable
Boot to Network: Disable
USB Boot: Disable
Zip Emulation Type: HardDisk
Boot USB Devices First: Disable
USB Mass Storage Emulation Type: Auto

In this configuration, from turning the key until music plays: 35 Seconds
.
Of which:
15 seconds is motherboard start-up,
15 Seconds Windows Resume,
5 Seconds Powersupply delay.

I'm a bit disappointed from the mainboard. I find the 15 seconds way too long. But overall 35 seconds reallife boot time is ok.

Maybe there is something more that can be done in the BIOS, but I don't see what.

I also tried to disable the IDEPort/CD Rom. It maybe gained one second or so...

This is the pdf manual on the BIOS setting for this board:

http://download.intel.com/support/mo...bymenu_v10.pdf

There is a lot that can be disabled. 15 seconds is too long. (I am comparing it to my old Jetway NX1750)

As you can see from my BIOS settings I have already disabled everything that can be disabled and tweaked every setting I could. I looked up every setting and adjusted it if possible.

15 Seconds is max you get from the intel board. (newest firmware)

Use your PCI slot (by inserting a VGA card, like I do) and you will be amaze how long it then takes to wake up from hirbernation.

In my case:

-5 sec due to my M2-ATX
-25 sec to see the Intel logo
-55 sec Centrafuse is back on line.

If I dont use the PCI card then system takes 25sec to hibernate.

When you used HD-Tach, what was your write speed? Most HD's have a very good random read speed but a poor/fair random write speeds.

Write speed is very important for XP, it is constantly writing to your HD even when its booting.

Edit:

Found an extra few features on the Intel website for the BIOS to set for faster boots:

Desktop Boards - Optimization tip - Device boot order

Quote:

Quote:
Disable Silent Boot, which eliminates display of the logo splash screen. This could save several seconds of painting complex graphic images and changing video modes.
Enable Intel® Rapid BIOS Boot. This feature bypasses memory count and the search for a diskette drive.
They also say this:

Quote:
This boot time may be so fast that some drives might be not be initialized at all. If this condition should occur, it is possible to introduce a programmable delay ranging from 3 to 30 seconds
