Mini-ITX boards hibernation boot times
I've used many Mini-ITX boards of the years and wanted to see what other's boot times are using hibernation, since this is the most often used setting. Below are a couple of mine.
1. Via M12000 (1.2GHz) - 30+ seconds using hibernation
2. Via MP13000 (1.3GHz) - 35+ seconds using hibernation
3. Jetway J7F2WE1G5D (1.5GHz) - 15+ seconds using hibernation
4. Intel D945GCLF2 (1.6GHz) - 21+ seconds using hibernation
So far I'm really happy with the boot times of the Jetway board, at 15+ seconds it boots up pretty fast from hibernation.
I just bought the Intel board thinking since it was faster and duo core that it would boot up much quicker, but it did not. 21+ seconds is not bad, but it's 5+ seconds slower then the Jetway board.
Now, most people that use or get a CarPC complain about the boot times. So I started thinking, "I wonder what the boot times are of aftermarket system". So, I went to the local Frys and tested some out. The first one I tested was a Sony double din system. From the time I turned it on, to the time it was playing the radio, it took about 7 seconds. Not bad, but I'm sure that it would take longer if playing from a USB device/CD/or a movie.
I then tested a Kenwoord double din system, I believe. The device took 6 seconds for the radio to be heard, but a full 12+ seconds for the screen to be seen and the touchscreen to be active.
So, my conclusions are that with a CarPC booting in 15+ seconds is right up there with aftermarket systems. The problem that I see is that most users compare CarPCs boot times with regular old stereo systems that are up and running as soon as power is provided.

Have you disabled anything in the BIOS? Disabling things that you don't use such as printer ports, com ports, unused ide/sata channels, onboard lan etc will make a huge difference in your BIOS post times which will speed up your boot times.

Yes, those times are with everything not needed disabled. I'm just looking to see what other people's boot times are and what board they are using.

I'm currently using the Epia M10000 with a stripped out XP and I have managed cold boots of 17 seconds, but then you have to lot CF etc which takes ages.
Hibernation from power on to playing music is about the 18 second mark.
I'm interested in trying the stripped xp with my d945gclf2 when it's delivered to see what I can get.

Wow, that is pretty impressive with using that board.
Have you had any issues with using the stripped out version of XP? What did u use to create such a version and what did you keep/remove?
I was a little disappointed in the Intel board, I thought it would be faster then the Jetway board, but it was 5-6 seconds slower. But if you're getting those times with that board, you should be in the 10 below mark with the Intel one.

I believe the board mentioned above is the board that I have. The Jetway J7F2WE1G5D. My boot times from hibernation is right around 16 seconds from ign on to music playing. Full install of XP, and I didn't even think about disabling some of the referenced ideas above.
I can do that in device manager correct? or is that done in the bios?

Only problem I have had was when I started using the Silabs usb radio and I had removed the .inf for usbaudio. Copied them from a full install and off I went

I think you're better of disabling what you can in the BIOS so that the BIOS doesn't initialise something that windows is going to ignore anyway. I found that disabling the unused ide/sata channels and onboard lan saved the most time.

Keep in mind guys that resuming from hibernation is LARGELY dependent upon the amount of ram installed... so when posting up resume times, make sure to note the amount of ram you're using too.

Using the specs I have listed in my profile, I originally had a pretty good hibernate boot time. I'd say <30 Seconds (only by a few).
However, a couple of weeks ago I re-installed windows (I couldn't get the cd-drive to boot in bios to format, so I was FORCED to do non-fresh install), and now my hibernate is extremely slow. So slow that my M3-ATX will shut power off completely before it can completely hibernate. If I hiberate before I kill the power, it'll take close to 2 minutes to enter hibernation. To come out, about another minute, maybe 1.5.
I'm hoping to fix it without doing a complete format. I don't even know if I will be able to cause I wasn't able to get the CD Drive to boot >

Yeah, that M10000 board will slow, I have been using the SP13000 and it was slow too. It's weird how some boards boot/come out of hibernation faster then others. I use 1GB with every system that I fhave mentioned, so everything is the same.
If you want fast hibernation times, go with the Jetway board that I mentioned.
Is the CD drive being found in BIOS? Are you selecting the CD drive as your first boot device?
