XP Embedded

I finally have got a xpe image booting with CF running in shell!! Got all sound/video. Have not tried bluetooth or gps yet. But got it up and running. Need to shave down boot times some more when I get it on my truck computer. I am looking at about 35sec to CF main screen.

nintwala will become famous soon enough
what hardware configuration are you using?

I looked into XP embedded and it seems to me that you have to make a build from scratch everytime you make a change and its very hardware dependent. So if you made a XP image for your machine it will give me the BSOD on mine.

I am not too familiar with it though. Care to shine some light on it?

Thanks...

Xpe

Not a problem. Is there a way I can take the cf shell and replace explorer shell? Right now I have the run as system shell selected but I still have to login first then it boots cf. Also I dont know how much of a help my xpe image will be as it is computer specific.

you can replace winlogon with minlogon to remove the login prompt, it should be in XPE...

also from start menu in the run dialog you can type.

control userpasswords2

This brings up a dialog where you can uncheck that users must logon to the system and give it a default account...

The XPE image will be computer specific, but the part that is needed and would be helpful, and you can just list it all as well and I will make it a sticky in a new thread, is all the non computer specific stuff you included to make it work such as MDAC, JET, .NET, DirectX files, Win32 files, etc...

XPe is hardware specfic. But I have been able to get the image I made for my laptop to boot on my desktop with limited functionality. And yes you have to rebuild your image for any changes you wish to make.

Update

Got all drivers installed so now I can standby and hibernate. I am looking at 10-11s to CF coming out of hib. Even faster out of standby. I am going to make an image for my MKII1200 this weekend and see how that goes. Does anybody know of anyone offering pre configured or custom xp embedded? If so how much? Will keep everyone posted.

I too am new tp xpe. But you are correct about the hardware my setup would probably not work on yours. I am running a MKII1200,80GB,512MB,DVD-RW,navman gps,no name Bluetooth. Also I am running 5.1 out of the onboard audio. I do not have gps or bluetooth setup yet I am going to wait until it is on my car pc. I will be posting my config like David asked after it is all up and running.
