New to CF, but very worried.
Hello everyone. I've been reading about CF for a few months now and I am very excited about it. But I do have a few questions about it that maybe someone can clear up for me. I'm a big-time Meedio user, and I use a heavily modded theme for my CarPC. I don't use navigation or Bluetooth so this is aimed at the "lite" CF. My system is not touchscreen but rather controlled by a remote control. Can CF be used by remote control? I use the remote from the TV PVR-150 card. Meedio's config has a mapping section that allows me to map remote buttons to functions. Does CF have this capability?
The other issue is the activation scheme. I've been following these forums lately and understand the the activation scheme used by CF is based on system change - like WinXP. Change a piece of hardware and CF locks you out. this will be make or break for me. Occassionally I attach an external keyboard, mouse, large monitor, and other periphials when programming or playing with upgrades. My understanding is that CF would lock me out even if I attatch a USB drive ( My CarPC has a card reader for downloading pictures and small files from cards or thumb drives). This type of lock down will not work for me. Is there a way to completely disable this feature, once you have paid for the program of course? I completely understand about piracy issues and you must protect your software. But it seems to me that once you pay for the software, any software, it should belong to you. CF's method is to keep FLUX Inc in control of the program even after you've paid for it. I don't personally like nor condone this kind of control. I don't like to make phone calls or connect to websites to re-register a product continuously when I make changes to my hardware - as I have every right to do as many times as I like. Soooo.... are there plans to implement a new protection scheme in the future? Or will you stay with the hardware-change-cause-in-effect approach? BTW, please don't take anything i've said out of context. I really want to buy CF, I'm just very apprehensive about these issues. Thanks. Jimmy |

Lock out question
I'm also new here and i've been using the Trialversion for about two weeks now and havn't had any lock problems yet. I've attatched an USB stick, an external DVD Drive and a USB Keyboard - it all worked fine.
Don't know if that's just in the trial, but i hope not

the latest releases have very loose activation hardware change schemes... If you switch out a major component it might still lock you out, but you get a couple of activations for this reason, and if you have problems a quick email to support and they will be cleared for you...
you can control Centrafuse with a remote, you can modify the hotkeys and us up/down/tab to navigation the screens... david |
