Using gmail imap.

I am trying to set up my gmail account in CF, and it doesn't download any e-mails. I have IMAP enabled on my google account, and my CF settings as follows:

Email Name: gmail
Email address: myemail@gmail.com
User name: myemail@gmail.com (I've tried just myemail, too)
password: mypassword
incoming server: imap.gmail.com
outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
incoming port: 993
outgoing port: 587
server type: imap
imap folder: Inbox
incoming security: TLS/SSL Implicit
outgoing security: TLS/SSL Explicit

What's wrong? I'm using CF1.47

I don't have "Generate System Report." Is that only in 2.0?

ah, yes it is, so, do you have an error.log file? Outside of that we might need you to move to 2.0 to diagnose this issue...

Ah

I know what it is. Google's gmail cretificates have expired. Saw this issue 2 weeks ago when gmail completely stopped working for one of our OEM's. It will not work in 1.47 until google fixes these issues.

Interesting. What is the difference between 2.0 and 1.47 that allows gmail to work with 2.0 and not 1.47?

2.0 has the feature to generate a system report. I think thats the difference that would help them diagnose the issue.

I assume that CF uses Outlook Express to read the mail?

In the setup instructions for Outlook Express on the Gmail page it says:
Quote:
14. Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
15. Enter '465' in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field.
16. Under Incoming mail (IMAP), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL). The port will change to '993'.
Maybe you could try using port 465 for outgoing? Not sure why outlook express would require a different port, maybe its a typo on the gmail page but its worth trying.

It also says you need the full email address in the name field. I know you said you tried both, just eliminating one variable from your trial & error.
Quote:
10. Enter your full email address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') in the Account name: field. Enter your password in the Password: field, and click Next.
Also, SSL is required for incoming & outgoing. Im not clear on implicit/explicit but you have one of each there. Incoming-implicit Outgoing-explicit? I would expect they should be the same?

OK,

I just set up email thru CF on a windows virtual machine here on my MacBook Pro (wow too much info, right?)

Anyways, I used TLS/SSL Implicit on both incoming AND outgoing servers. And for the ports, I used 993 for Incoming & 465 for Outgoing. It seems to work fine for receiving and sending emails.

I never set up email in the car since there is no internet connection unless Im parked in my garage, at which point I could just use the MacBook Pro inside (no need fooling around w/ email in the car if Im right near my laptop, lol.)

Anyway, I think I might get some EVDO or something for the car because getting the emails on CF and having them read to me is pretty cool.

2.0 has code that allows email to be used even with the expired certificates... 1.47 did not allow this...
