2.0 & GlobalSat BU-353 Problems

Morning all,

Been a member of the forum for about a year now however never needed to post up on here, however I am having some slight problems with the navigation system after upgrading to 2.0.

Everything was working fine on the last one, the GPS led is flashing and on GPSinfo it is picking up my location. Settings in centrafuse to the right port and baud rate (4800) and tried on Sirf or NMEA (or whatever!) still not picking location up or finding any satelites.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I have the BU-353, and had inconsistent problems with all versions of CF, but now it works perfectly every time. Here is what I did: Using SiRFDemo I changed the settings on the unit to 57600 and SiRF. I made those changes in CF as well, and it works great. I am using 2.0 RC4.

I used SiRFDemo, but I think it has similar results.
You also need to update the comport settings in windows.

Sometimes the acquisition time is a little excessive from cold, but I think that's a known problem with these units.

Yes, SiRFDemo is the application I used as well! Since those changes, even my acquisition time seems to be almost instant.

Did it actually improve the performance?

Can someone actually post some directions on what to do in SirfDemo? Honestly I am a little scared to fiddle with it because I fried my last GPS adapter when I used it.

Same here,!!
I would love to try it, but I'd hate to fry it....

@GinG: just a small hint, try using "Alt+Print screen" instead, it will insert only the active window in the screenshot and not the whole screen...

Not used it myself, but there's a user guide here:

Lol, its actually pretty straightforward.

Open Sirfdemo. - It will open a Data Source Setup window which prompts for your comport and speed, these should be auto-detected for your device.

OK this box.

Finally select;
Action --> Synchronise Protocol and Baud Rate

SiRF demo will sync your device up to 38400 speed with the SiRF protocol, and save the changes.

Edit: You can switch back to NMEA at this point if you want by selecting;
Action --> Switch to NMEA protocol
Select the desired baud rate and then ok.

Then just close the app.

Don't forget to update the relevant settings in Windows, CF etc...

PS: If you fry your GPS that's your problem, but this process worked for me with no issues.
