Which gps unit to match Garmin mobile PC?

hello all,

im looking into using the Garmin navi plugin, and before i drop a $100 on the program i would appreciate some help. I currently have the bu 353 unit, but from what ive read it refreshs 1 per sec, making garmin look laggy. now i know they sell a package with the garmin 20x unit but ive been unable to find the refresh rate on it. from what ive read, i want a unit with 5hz rate to avoid laggy behavior. any recomendations? or is it really not that bad. thanks in advance!

Don't spend any money unnecessarily. Try it for yourself with the BU-353 which you already have.

I've used Garmin Mobile PC with 1 Hz GPS receivers, and it works just fine. As far as I'm concerned there is very little practical advantage, if any, using a 5 Hz unit.

I have a Qstarz GPS 818x, which is a dual, Bluetooth and USB, receiver. It outputs 5 Hz (or lower, based on your settings). I think you can buy it for around $60. I'm happy with it. I'd buy another one w/out any hesitation.

I have a recommendation :

I-blue 747 A+

- bluetooth or USB
- Assisted GPS (internet updated)
- leave your car, take it with you an use it as a stand-alone GPS logger
- leave it on and the next day youŽll have instant satellite fix (battery life 32hrs, charges through USB)
- MTK chipset

I used it with GMPC on a netbook and worked very well (only USB tested)

cheapest ebay price : $52.64

I used this device to navigate through Australia / New Zealand on my netbook and as a datalogger ; click (Dutch language)

This is a clone of the Qstarz BT-Q1000X (better specifications, for instance 42hrs battery life ,also more expensive)

I use the BU 353 my self. I've seen no problems with using it for garmin. Every now and then garmin doesn't see it immediately but thats just how I have it setup.

Ive asked Garmin about that and they told me that every GPS receiver with a NMEA protocol should work.
