Lightbulb Flux Recommended Harware Configurations?

Im sure there are many of us that are computer gurus and many that are novices. Personally, I would like to have some sort of road map laid out for me.
  • Motherboards with built in audio that are known to give full control of the mixer's front, rear, and subwoofer controls.
  • Operating systems that work best. What the dependencies of the software are in case users what to use nLite or something to slim down the size of their install.
  • Different operating system tweaks that improve preformance. Things to avoid that degrade performance.
  • Radio tuners known to work and that have RDS working
  • Motherboards with built in video card or external video cards that support 600x848 (and other widescreen native resolutions)
  • USB GPS antennas known to work
  • Sugessted support software such as Xport3, special drivers etc.
  • Sugessted USB TV tuners that work as Centrafuse is designed.

I know some of this information is already posted in various locations and searching will help to find some of it. But I have yet to see a centrally located thread that outlines what works best with what.

David, you seem to be very on top of things and very quick to respond to all these posts from people with issues with x,y,z hardware. I think it would actually help you clear up a lot of questions you are getting if you were to put a sticky thread like this in this section and also put a link to it in the FAQ section.

Basically you could make a Flux Media "suggested hardware setup". Not just minimum specifications, but actual pieces of hardware that are known to work perfectly or even close to perfectly with Centrafuse.

Im sure that Flux uses a few different hardware setups to test the software so maybe you could create some sort of "hardware matrix" with "tested working/fully supported", "does not work/not supported" and "known bugs/issues", "future integration coming soon" with little x's by each item. It could be separated into categories such as motherboards, soundcards, usb gps, etc etc.

I am currently using a Toshiba laptop and am building a new purpose-built system from the ground up. It would be very helpful for me to not waste money buying things that wont work properly (like ive already been doing, )

I would much rather spend the money doing it right this time than to keep going in circles. Im sure others are in the same boat.

I will work to build a complete list like this as soon as I have time... busy with the next update to the commercial release and getting all the plugins update right now...

this is a good idea, we will also recommend complete solutions soon...

I understand you are busy with other projects right now.

In the mean time, could you post up the specs on the machines you are using for testing and development of the software? That would at least give us some ideas on what to shop for..

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. There is already a thread where users have been posting their hardware setups:

Working hardware setups

I was more referring to Flux Media "official" hardware setups.

Just following upon my original post...

My new hardware setup (listed in my signature) everything is working correctly, with the exception of the SiLabs USB FM receiver tuning/hiss problems and no 800x480 widescreen resolution for my 7" Lilliput.

SiLabs tuning is buggy and there is a hiss that is audible if you switch to media you still hear the hiss from the FM.

Front/Rear fading works. Sub probably works too, but I havent been able to test it yet since I havent built a sub box for my woofer yet.

Tiny XP is working fine. I havent done any tweaking or optimization to it but this is something I plan to look into.

I have a BU-353 USB satellite receiver and it works perfectly. I use Xport3 to split the port signal.

most CAM devices should work... The TV plugin needs some work, we have only internally tested with the Hauppauge WinTV USB device...

the supported radios are in the list and any GPS receiver with a COM port should work...

Just because of the number of devices out there I think it's impossible for Flux to test everything.

Maybe it would be a good idea to create a separate wiki or part of the forum where users can add their devices and the status. Divided in separate sections for different types of devices (gps, radio, cam etc) (maybe specify a template to post the information in)

Just an idea....
