Space Navigator
David,
Is there any plans to integrate the Space Navigator to control CF?
http://www.3dconnexion.com/3dmouse/spacenavigator.php
It is a great alternative to the BMW i-Drive system as it is a 6-axis controller, pan left/right/fwd/back, zoom in/out, rotate left/right/back/forth , twist left/right and 2 tiny keys. Its the dogs nuts with any AutoCAD or with Google Earth
There was a lot of work on the mp3car.com forums, but mainly for RoadRunner:

very nice... I will look into this device... also can it not just send standard hotkeys? then it could already be integrated into Centrafuse...

Looks like a cool device...
There is no ability to write an input device plugin in centrafuse. ( afaik)
So it would be a "driver" that translates the device movement to keypresses..
Could be done I think.. I'll start reading that thread you mentioned...

There is an SDK. That's good news...
David, can a plugin send some kind of input actions directly ?

input device plugins can be written with the Centrafuse SDK...
the quickest is if the device can send hotkeys already with the software it's easy...
Otherwise a quick NON-GUI plugin needs to be created in Centrafuse... You will detect the inputs from the device and translate into Centrafuse CF_Actions, most all commands are available already in the Centrafuse SDK...
if a CF_Action is missing that you want added I can add it...

Sorry, I missed those.. I was looking for a seperate ICFInput or something. But a general plugin would do fine I think..
Tempting... creating an device with IDrive "feel" would be great.

It is a HID device and if you manage to read all the 22 pages of the thread in mp3car's forums it is not a quick fix to integrate it. All its movements are progressive, ie pressure sensitive, so the further you push in any direction the faster it moves, so it transmits a huge string of commands via the USB.
The build quality is great and its base is very heavy to allow the zoom-out function to work when you lift the lever. And as a bonus its cheap @€60.
There is also a smaller version @€200 with 8 keys around its circumference!

I have integrated the SpaceNavigator Personal-Edition into my CF with the mp3car's forums tips. There is a package with a link to download. It works very good after a while of fine tuning.
The only point is not to plug it out of an usb connector and replugin to the next,
then you have a lot to reconfigure.

I have one of those that I bought specifically to use with CF and I didnt have any luck with it so its just sitting in the box until I can find a way to make it work.
It is a very cool unit, very high quality but not very useful for me with the software thats available (or atleast the software it comes with). If any one finds a way to make this thing work with CF, please post up how you did it.

I've read some of it, but I didn't see any mention of the SDK that is available for the device. The space navigator site mentions sample code etc. in C but I haven't looked at it yet.
I think I need to decide quickly if I want to build custom controls on the steering wheel by modifying a wireless keyboard, or use a device like this..
