It's like a BMW iDrive controller...hopefully it has more favourable reviews than the BMW unit!
I was involved with that device (called "Haptic Commander" by the manufacturer Alps Electric, renamed by BMW) and it's prototypes. It was a fabulous device that was ruined by bad programmers there at BMW. Too bad they didn't let me do it ...

@ Scott: Now you have the opportunity to show your mettle wink-wink......Yeah, the iDrive seems a capable unit, but, as with everything else, if the firmware/software lets it down, it would be pretty much worthless. What a shame, really, it has so much potential.

@ Cabrio Bob: I have a SpaceTraveler too, and I'm pretty sure if you want to disassemble it, you will ned to remove the metal ring below the know/above the buttons, as it seems pressed in there.

I could try with mine, but will await arrival of my SpaceNavigator from USA first - a colleague will be bringing it back in the next few months.

@ Scott: Can you ask Dave if he has received my PM's with Jim over @ 3dConnexion's email details, for his action?

Would appreciate your feedback, thanx Scott.

Nothing wrong with the BMW iDrive, most people are just too simple to use an advanced system, much like car PC's. Its not for everyone and thats where BMW got it wrong, they needed to make something a bit more simple for all the simpletons out there.

I can probably get my hands on a few SpaceNavigators if needed for testing/development. I have a SN for myself, and two of the bigger versions at my desk but I can probably get a few more of the smaller ones (I do 3D CAD/reverse engineering all day so I need the device).

Yep, I'm with ik632 on this one, I can also be a beta-tester for CF/3dConnexion if this one flies....

Please, abuse me!

Hello David/Scott,
Can you guys contact Jim over at 3d while he's still keen on helping out with developing a plugin for their software for this device - this will give us full support in CF.

Would appreciate......

Anyway, just received my SpaceNavigator off Ebay for $49.95, brand-spankers, yeay - works very well so far.

I've been using the rbc9 application and it's decent, but the problem is at 800x480 you can't see the entire interface (screen is too short).

Yep, I'm using the RBC9 driver too -works pretty well.

Would be very nice to have official support though, and then the plugin can allow the device to have different (and configurable) functions in each screen - take the main screen for example:

Rotate the device left/right will allow you to cycle left or right through main screens.....making selection easier.

At the same time, left/right rotation would be volume up/down while in radio/dvd/iPod/media-player screens for example.....

As I mentioned, 3dConnexion software dev Jim is pretty keen on doing this plug-in, he basically needs some input from Fluxmedia devs.......

Shouldn't be to hard, I guess, for one of the devs to contact Jim over at their forums?

I did send Scott/David Jim's email details, and I know Scott forwarded it to Flux devs, so we can only hope they will get in touch with Jim, which hasn't happened yet.

Anyway, it would be great to have official support, and will finally provide us with the ultimate front-end - I guess at the end of the day, it's the total solution that matters to consumers - the software on it's own is great, but we need more -> and at this point in time, it's a very basic requirement that doesn't have support (yet).

Not everyone wants/needs touch-screens, they add significantly to the glare-factor, and detract from screen-clarity/sharpness.

So, we need something like the iDrive controller BMW uses, and this device can be it - the all-in-one solution to control the frontend.

All Fluxmedia needs to do is to contact Jim -> please guys
