Thumbs down Navigation problem

I'm sure this is related 100% to the multi-mapsets that CF uses, but here goes:

This morning I picked up a load from Fairmont, WV to Canton, NC. I've been to the delivery location before, so I had it saved in my POIs. However, I can't select the exact location because it's in a different mapset. So, I select the town itself. No problem. It shows 410 miles (give or take a few) which was dead on the money.

So, when I go to leave I have to circle our building. This caused a recalculation. The route now says 655 miles. Mind you I've moved maybe 100 yards.

Ok - reload the map, select the city again and get the correct mileage. Off I go.

It routes me down I-79, US-19, I-77, I-81, I-26, I-40 to Canton. This is correct.

After I drove about 180 miles or so, I take US-460/US-19 through Bluefield, WV to go around some construction. After CF finally accepts this road, it now shows about 450 miles to Canton. I ignore it and continue on.

When I came onto I-81 in Abingdon, VA, CF now shows 360+ miles to the location. So, again, I reselect the map, reselect the town and it recalculates correctly at about 150 miles.

Off I go again. When I crossed the TN/VA state line on I-81, CF went from showing 140 miles to now showing 190 miles. This time I ignore it since I knew that the map would reload once I crossed into NC.

At the TN/NC state line, CF went from showing 140 miles in TN to now showing 60 miles in NC.

If anything shows that CF needs to use a single map file, or have the ability to load multiple maps at the users discretion/needs, this is it.

Remember, I cross the eastern half of the country on a daily basis. Just since yesterday, I've had the northeast (NJ), Mid-Atlantic (PA/WV), East Central (TN) and South Central (NC) maps in use. Tomorrow I'll use South Central, East Central and Mid Atlantic all over again and I'm quite positive that I'll have the exact same recalculation hiccups that I've had all day today.

are you using USARoads for cross regional routing? Try to use the full map when you go into Change Map Location...

I tried to use the USARoads, but as soon as I started moving, the mapset changed to the local one.

Todays route - fun again:

I picked up a load in Duncan, SC going back to Fairmont, WV.

I start by loading the USARoads map and adding Fairmont, WV as the destination. Hmm - it's showing 1,354 miles and that I'm sitting in NYC. I think, well, it'll update my location as soon as I start moving. Nope - I drove about 5 miles and it still showed me in Manhatten.

I stop, add the destination again but with the Mid-Atlantic map and it shows correctly - 450 miles.

Off I go.

It suggested I-85, I-77, US-19, I-79. That's fine, but not the way I wanted to run: I-26, I-81, US-19/US-460, I-77, US-19, I-79. No problem. Within 10 miles or so, it picked up that route.

When I was about to cross the NC/TN state line, it was showing 368 miles remaining (dead on). I crossed the state line and it loaded the next map - now it's showing 653 miles remaining. Hmmmm

I continue driving without reloading to recalculate. When I approached the TN/VA line on I-81, it was showing 589 miles. Once the Mid-Atlantic mapset loaded, it dropped to the correct mileage of 294 miles remaining.

Sorry - this multi-mapset is a HUGE problem...

I'll continue to post the problems as I experience them.

Edit: I found another problem with the multi-mapset setup. If you're not in a mapset that you have for your home address, the home button is useless. The same goes for Favorites that aren't in the current loaded mapset. There's no way to change the mapset without adding an address first, either.

Just wondering if any possible solutions have been found on this issue.

As my other post that you found said, I have problems with the seperate groups, though only once did mine tell me an incorrect mileage just before a border and fixed it after like you described. But then again, I was simply not loading my route until I crossed the border. That was my first solution.

Now, I have two destinations saved. One on each side of the border. I route to the point on my side of the border, then change my route to my destination once I cross the border. I do this both ways and it has kept me quiet for now.

The USARoads map has been mentioned to me as well before, but this is NOT a solution. It does not work as it 'should' I guess.

For me, I have a destination saved in KS. I'm sitting in OK. These two states are in seperate map packs. When I try to route to the KS saved point, it says it can't route there. As per a suggestion, I tried to switch to the USARoads map and this is what happened:

1. sitting in OK, locked GPS location
2. switch to USARoads map
3. pick destination in KS
4. The map now switches to the New York local map, with an arrow telling me it's locked on to me in NewYork.

If I drive around now, it shows the arrow happily moving around NewYork.

If I cancel my route, I then jump back to OK. If only I could really travel that fast... *smile*

All of this is in 1.2 and nobody has seen it as a problem that needs fixed I guess, or they just think I don't know how to use the system because after the USARoads suggestion, I got nothing.

For me, driving exclusively between two states, the destinations on either side of the border work for me. For the original poster here, that wouldn't work at all.

These are obvious glitches with the multi-map pack solution. I think that one of two things needs to happen. Either it needs to be built in for the user to check a box that says "load all maps"... or the better solution is to do something like loading each state as it needs it, but leaving it in memory. Or allowing custom map packs to be built.

If you could simply put the map pack for one area and another area in the same folder and that would load them both at the same time, that would be wonderful.

I have sent an email to Destinator as well asking about a custom map pack. Since I only need KS and OK, my problem might be more easilly solved.

Or they could ignore me. Who knows.

I'm taking my first trip with 2.0 today, so I'll try the USARoads thing once again now with 2.0 and see if anything changes.

OK cool. I thought it was only me that had issues like that with the navi.

I have the same issue... I was driving to St. Louis and luckly I already knew the way.. becasue the damn thing re-routed randomly and the milage would go up and down....

Update... 2.0 throws me to new York as well.

1. Switch to USARoads.
2. Choose dest in ks by address
3. When I push go, it does the new York thing.

The only thing I described that was incorrect is that in order to fix nav to my real location, I have to load my local map manually.

The route that it makes while in new York is baffling too. And goes away when I load my real local map.

if you have full maps, you can remove the New York and Berlin trial maps from the folder, see if this fixes the issue...

just a suggestion

The destinator application that puts the maps on the pda has a map splitter program on it. you can split areas and blend areas to make a one file map.
