you have both gps and tmc set to COM5? I dont think that will work... Using xport to split the com into 2 virtual ports might work, but not sure, David would need to comment on that...

you need a GPS receiver and a TMC receiver, set the COM port to the GPS receiver and set the COM port to the TMC receiver...

GNS sells a seperate TMC receiver, it will not work on the same COM port with the GN 9833, but you still can use that as your TMC receiver and use another GPS receiver...

here is the receiver...

Hi,

You say in the FAQ that you can use GNS TrafficBox FM9 with any GPS reciver. I assume that alternativly the combined GPS / TMC device GNS 9833 GPS RDS TMC Receiver 20-channel SiRF III could be used?

The GNS 9833 could be used as just the TMC receiver, but you will need another GPS receiver...

The GNS drivers do not properly create 2 COM ports, the Virtual driver for the TMC does not work well in XP and doesn't work at all in Vista...

which is why I recommend the cheaper just TMC receiver from GNS...

if you already have a GPS receiver, and already have a GNS 9833 you can work, I use this setup in my car, but I just use the 1 COM port for the GNS 9833 for TMC only...

David - it might be an idea to put a note to this affect in the afore mentioned FAQs - Some people - like me - maybe of the idea that one unit to do all would be better - from what you say it seems not....

anyway cheers for the information
