Lightbulb Centrafuse Connected Car Developer Challenge

Centrafuse "Connected Car" Developer Challenge

Calling all Centrafuse plug-in application developers!

The Challenge - Build the coolest “connected car” Centrafuse plug-in you can think of.

We’re talking about a location-based or location-aware plug-in app here, like when your mobile phone knows of good restaurants nearby... but in the car… and way cooler, like if your car could let you know if you were entering a high-crime area and locks your doors for you. Neat stuff like that. The winner will be the one demonstrating the most creative and innovative use of GPS location in a plug-in application for Centrafuse Auto as determined by the voting forum members.

Contest Rules and Submission Guidelines

1.
Must use the current 3.1 release of the Centrafuse Auto SDK to create a plug-in application (app) for Centrafuse version 3.1.309 using the CFPlugin API.

2.
The app must make use of GPS location by using the Centrafuse API or other GPS data source such as the GPSEngine plug-in for Standard edition users.

3. The app must work with the default “Clean” skin. (see helper PSD here)

4. The app must include at least one (1) language file in English.

5.
Developers must register at this URL: Centrafuse | Developer Challenge Signup before the contest deadline.

6.
Contest begins August 22nd and the contest deadline is September 26th, 2010.

7.
Upload your finished plug-in to the URL (see below) complete with a screenshot of the plug-in running.

The upload submission URL will appear in the space below on this forum post the week before the contest deadline.

!!!!!! SUBMIT YOUR CONTEST ENTRIES HERE !!!!!!
http://forums.fluxmedia.net/dlcat-ce...st-uploads-11/

Contest deadline:
All contest submissions must be submitted to the URL above before midnight US Eastern Time on Sunday, September 26th, 2010. To be clear – you must upload your app by Sunday night, Monday is too late.

First Prize

Lilliput 7-inch Touchscreen LCD - courtesy of Mp3Car.

The first prize winner will be chosen using a poll where forum members will cast their vote for their favorite submitted "connected car" app over the span of 10 days, following the contest deadline. On day 11 we will count the votes and the first-prize winner receives a brand new 7" Lilliput touchscreen LCD, compliments of our friends at Mp3Car along with a free t-shirt from the Centrafuse Gear Shop.
The first prize winner will also have their app featured in the upcoming Centrafuse "app store" which is now underway. More info on that later.

Second Prize
Free map upgrade and item of choice from Centrafuse Gear Shop

Second place prize will be awarded to the developer with the 2nd most votes, and will receive a free map upgrade (when available) and a free item of their choice from the Centrafuse Gear Shop.

Third Prize
Free item of choice from the Centrafuse Gear Shop

Third place prize will be awarded to the developer with the 3rd most votes, and will be receive a free item of their choice from the Centrafuse Gear Shop.

On Your Mark, Get Set... Go!

Get started now and start planning your plug-in idea. The contest officially starts on August 22nd - so start brainstorming now! Or if you already have your evil plan, get a head start on the rest of the pack.

Get the SDK (click here) and get started right away!

Have fun and good luck!

Only 4 days left until contest deadline. If you're planning to submit your plugin for entry, you will need to have it uploaded by this Sunday night. I'll be adding a link to post your plugin here where the purple text is tomorrow (Friday).

Then, next week you can all download and check out these new "location-aware" plugins and vote for your favorite! The voting will be open over the course of 10 days.

Stay tuned to this thread for details.

Developer Challenge Contest Entries Are Here!

Alright! - Thanks to everyone who submitted an entry for the contest. We will be making a poll later this evening so you can vote for your favorite. Voting will stay open for 10 days (starting last night), so next Tuesday, October 5th at midnight we will count the votes, and announce the winners!

Here is a rundown of the Connected Car Developer Challenge contestants:

Garmin Rebellium 3.4 Update + Send to Car by tempgp
This popular Garmin (GMPC) integration plugin app gets a very cool upgrade which allows you to send a route to your CarPC from Google Maps! Very safe, very convenient. Check out this entry. There's even a video!

CFGPSEvents (GPS Event Engine) by Sonicxtacy02
This new plugin app is more of an super automation "engine" than a plugin. With CFGPSEvents, you can pre-define GPS "zones" where, when your car enters a zone, you can program CF to perform a specific action. For example, opening your garage door when almost home, or showing your favorite traffic plugin when you're on the way home from work. Very flexible, very useful. Check out Sonic's video on the entry page.

CFFuelPrices (Fuel Prices) by Enforcer
You may recognize this classic. This is the newly minted, CFFuelPrices "world edition" which uses your current GPS location to find the closest and cheapest fuel available. Whether you live in the US, UK, France, Germany or Australia and shopping for diesel, petrol, gasoline, autogas, or premium - this single plugin will do the trick. Check this one out!

Trip Computer by _Dejan_
This handy plugin app uses GPS location to calculate trip data such as your average speed, distance traveled, time driven and time stopped. It also nicely displays your current trip odometer, elevation, speed, heading and other relevant GPS data in the center. Trip Computer allows you to define and track multiple trips. Quite a handy utility for those traveling a lot. Check it out here.

GPSTrack by _Dejan_
GPSTrack is a non-GUI plugin app that can be configured to upload your current GPS location to a web server as you drive. From the admin website, you can see your car's tracks on Google maps and also track other cars running this app. This can be very handy if you have have a teenage driver at home, or a small fleet for your business. No picture available for this non-GUI plugin, but learn more at the admin tracking website. See here.

GPSEngine by _Dejan_
This is an oldie but goodie. This plugin allows users of Standard edition to be able to use apps that rely on having a GPS location available to operate. For example if you are using the above Fuel Prices plugin with CF Standard, but using Garmin Rebellium for your navigation, then location-based plugin apps won't work if Destinator isn't running. This plugin changes that by making GPS data available through the same code interface as CF Navigation, CFNavInfo. Check it out here.

I would like to add that fair will be if developers do not vote for own plugins... So that developers who are in this challenge vote for someone else...

I'd say the developers shouldnt vote at all.. specifically for the reason above. I know this contest was done with good intentions but i thought the terms were the plugin users liked best? Sending out emails asking for votes and making deals doesnt exactly keep it honest.

Just my opinion though.
