Strange problem with my Xenarc

My screen setup is as follows:

Laptop with 17" screen, running 1280x768
7" Xenarc touchscreen

Right now I'm running a program called "UltraMon", which does mirroring. It mirrors the laptop's screen onto the Xenarc. This works nice, but it slows the system.

So, I tried removing UltraMon and using the "clone" feature of the laptop. The catch is that the only resolution that seems to work on the 7" is 800x600. However, it's capable of higher resolutions.

I did manage to get it to display @ 1280x768, but the image is "squashed" and only displays on about 2/3rds of the screen, with the top and bottom having wide blank bands.

When I go into the Windows display properties, if I change the resolution on the 7" to anything other than 800x600, it changes it right back.

Any clues?

The display is perfectly fine under UltraMon, even under the 1280x768. It messes up when I don't use it.

try setting 16:9 from the menu for your resolution. (on the xenarc i mean)

I just tried it - it's already set to 16:9

Something weird - when the I tried the AutoDetect on it, it shows a resolution of 1280x10

Addon to this:

I just tried changing the UltraMon Mirroring setting. I had been running the 7" at 800x600, and it works perfect. It autodetects as "800x600 / 60mhz". I tried switching UltraMon to 1280x768, and I get the same squashed appearance and "1280x10" for the autodetect.

I have a feeling something is wrong with the monitor itself.

Oh well - I wanna go to an 8" anyway. Now's a good reason. LOL

un-install and re-install your display driver in safe mode.

You may want to use the older nvidia drivers if you can. I've noticed that it is easier to get 800x480 out of the Xenarc by using the classic settings interface and forceware version 93.71. I have a GeForce FX 5200 btw- so depending on your card, these drivers may not work for you.

Anyhow, I create a custom resolution, apply it, then change the timing setting to "fixed aspect ratio timing", and it gives me 800x480. I notice that if this does not work on the first try, I often have to uninstall the driver, delete the nvidia folder completely, then reinstall the driver. Having it at 800x480 makes text so much more readable, so it's worth the effort to me.
