Transreflective a true comparison
Hey guys,
I know transreflective has been the talk of town since the technology has become available and people have actually seen the difference. Well since I am such a nice guy and also since I wanted to know what all the talk was about I did my own little test. In the picture below I have taken the same exact model screen (7.0" LVDS that will be available in the Co-Pilot) and have had modifications done to 2 models and left 1 as a control. The bottom right is just the LCD with no glass touch screen to block any light (sorry i wanted a picture of CF but i ran out of sunlight before i could take it ). The bottom left is the LCD with a sunlight readable touch screen with several 3M films. And of course the top LCD has had a complete transreflective upgrade done with a touch panel that complements the upgrade. You can definitely see the difference between the 3 models but the biggest difference is with the view angle that you get while in direct sunlight. it is very hard for me to show you the difference with pictures but it is there. Maybe I'll take a movie or something if there is enough interest.

Thankyou very much alok. This is what i've been asking for in another thread.
Contrary of what some people claim, this shows that the film upgrade isnt as good as factory built transreflective screens. Thanks again. EDIT: Forgot to ask, In your opinion which screen offers best readability at the greatest viewing angle? You mentioned that the viewing angle showed the biggest difference between the screens. Sunlight readability is not the only issue with screens. One of the major issues with non-modified screens is the glare that they omit when something light, such as clothing, is front of them. This makes the screens useless. The transflective screen almost gets rid of this glare and the readability is close to perfect.
I have been selling the transflective screen for a while now and that is the current way to go. |

The transreflective screen is by far the best at all view angles in comparison to the other two models. Films give the screen a purple tint and sometimes that can be irratating. Also remember that these three screens are identical and just so you know I now have contacts to make nearly any screen transreflective usually for under $300 including a touch screen w/ controller. There are cheaper options available but we recommend this one only because they upgrade everything including the touchscreen which is made to work well with their upgrades.
