VD2 - "True BMW" - Orange Skin (Dialup Beware)

Enough teasing already, when are we getting the skin?

I just installed VD and have been playing around with it, what font is that you used to get the LCD look?

Haha. Not trying to tease..

I'm going to have to re-do the orange as it really looks 'red' during both day and night driving.

It's not a big deal to change it at this point as it's a mass replace with UltraEdit on the XML files for the hex color -- just have to get the 'right' one.

ik632, the font is "01 Digital" -- another I was playing with is "Subway Ticker" -- both free fonts. The plus of "01 Digital" is that it's more scaleable than Subway Ticker... Subway Ticker however allows for both UPPER and lower case, where "01 Digital" is all UPPER CASE .... all the time -- but again feels more legit.

That's great. I really like the look and feel of the skin so I can't wait to see it published. I use it in a Honda Civic Si with the orange/red color so this should match nicely.

Looks cool but I think it's too orange. I like the text display in dot matrix but I don't think the buttons need to be. The roadrunner E36 theme does and a good mix.
I might this as a night theme though.

What do you use your auto-switching for? I've installed an infrared camera in the keyhole and planned on using it for reverse. I've got it somewhat working, but tapped into the reverse bulb for power... seems BMW's send pulsing electricity here and is not enough to power the camera, so I need to get a switch/relay -- which I'm trying to read up on to get this accomplished.


SKIN UPDATE:
Zorro has made available some recent patches to issues shown above. I will however need to re-create this skin from scratch, which now is not that big of a deal -- the hardest part is matching the orange (for me (BMW) at least). Inside on my laptop, the orange looks right, In the car day or night it's way too dark, and more red than orange.

That will get fixed this 'round. I plan on working, and hopefully available for beta this weekend.

If you have web in the car you can use the color selector to pick the one that's "just right". It looks like it gives you the appropriate values (though I have to admit I don't know much about the color selection process yet).

Hey ik632... Great link (not so much for the color picker, but for the TLD map!) -- that was cool.

Great idea however for color-picking. I had a more top-level idea last night and created a 5-color-combo version of colors so I could view it in full-screen and see what colors best matched.

I've attached it if anyone's interested in testing it in their car. I found that the BACKGROUND color for #5 was a near-match for the 'background' LCD, and and BACKGROUND color for #3 was a near-match for the 'forground' (font) LCD....

So i'm going to be matching those colors.

Great progress. I've played around with this a little (viewed the site in a web browser) and the colors are good. I'd be happy to give you a hand if you need help finishing up some of the screens.

So, how about a partial release? The work looks good so far and I wouldn't mind messing around with it to suit my specific needs
