This would be very helpful as I am currently working to accomplish the same goal. Run CF on XPe .

Is there maybe a way to export/import all the components you've used? -By looking at your components.txt list, this would save a lot of time not typing a few hundred components in by hand.

What is the main advantage of a custom-tailored XPe? Is it significantly faster?

whenever I turn off services in a regular XP installation, I do not notice a really significant increase of speed.

You cannot compare this by disabling a few services... You can compare it mostly by creating an extremly n-lite'd windows XP.

Cause nevertheless the services you disable, a normal windows xp loads _tons_ of drivers, which you do not need and cannot disable.

It also makes the size smaller (less bootup/hibernate time) and (correctly built*) more stable to (less components to fail).

*"correctly built" is very importnant, as it can also make windows motr _unstable_ if not done correctly.

The issue with XP Embedded is that its too "hardware specific". You cannot make a generic image file that works on all machines. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. Starting from the core drivers everything needs to be just right, if you screw up even a little bit, it will crash entirely. The reason is there are just way... too many hardware out there. Unless someone starts selling CarPC with specific hardware and make XP embedded for it, people will have to struggle making their own solution.

Saying all this, I am still keeping my eye on this thread to see what develops. I myself would love to give it another go at XPE.

Well I don't see this as an issue as this is by design!

Correct however this would not be for a "generic" image as that would:
A) Be Illegal
B) Pointless of having XPe

Correct, but incorrect in the fact that I had no issues building my own XPe image!

It gives me "XPEFFI.exe" file which is the downloader and it download a bunch of cab files. Do I need to make disk1 and disk2 into ISO or something?

You are definitely on the same page as me. I got everything downloaded I just don't see the same iso file as in the walkthrough.
