Windows XP Embedded - HOWTO

All,

I quickly whipped up my yesterdays findings on using Windows XP Embedded and VMware.

I would like to keep this one and the XPe and Centrafuse tuts separate as they not really the same thing. One is how to use XPe and the other would be how to get CF to work with XPe.

This doc is only a sample of what i have done so far, to get your feedback. Please tell me if I'm wasting my time or if this will be useful.

How to use Windows XP Embedded using Vmware Workstation 6.pdf

I tried to read up on this on the MS website but didn't get a whole lot of useful info. When you install XPe is it booting faster (like CE) or is it just a smaller install? I guess I'm not sure what the benefits are when compared to regular XP. Can someone explain this since I'm missing something here?

CE is something completely different. Yes it is smaller, and yes you can speed up boot times by not loading modules into the kernel you don't use.

Well this guide was a guide on how to get XPe going!!! is it working or not? I did not state i was going to spoon feed you what modules are required in this guide, that's for the next one:

For .NET, dont use centrafuses .NET installer use it from the modules search for .NET and you will see .NET Framework 2.

P.S. Im now running my carPC on XPe 100% smooth.

Don't missunderstand my little comment about that, of course I knew it was just about getting XPe going and your guide finaly motivated me to start over again with XPe, as I "throw it all away and gave up" the last time I tried on it.

So you definitely don't waste your time here, I'm shure it will make many peopel happy.

As you have ur car-pc 100% going (I assume with CF running?) many people may be glad if you'd list all the compontents and modules you used in the next tutorial. ;-)
